Add an optional child portrait
A portrait is a small picture of your child, shown beside their creations so the gallery feels like theirs. It is entirely optional, and only a parent or legal guardian can add, change, or remove one.
What a portrait does
Home and Gallery show the portrait of every credited child at the top left of a creation, including children who made it together. On a creation's detail page, tap a portrait beside the creation-type symbol or Creators to hear that child's name. Hold the title or praise phrase to hear it with the creators' names. Saved name recordings play where available; otherwise the device reads the name. A child without a portrait has no picture on their creations, and child pickers keep their illustrated mark.
People you have approved for sharing also see the portrait beside that child's creations in their shared inbox, when your sharing includes that child. Pausing or ending someone's sharing ends their access.
Step by step
1. Open Family in grown-up mode
When adding a child, choose Choose avatar or keep the illustrated default and continue. Skip closes the chooser without changing your choice. Later, find the child’s card in Family to change it. A child can help choose with their parent or legal guardian; child mode has no upload control.
2. Choose Add portrait
Tap Add portrait, or Change portrait if there is one already. Little Binder asks for your grown-up PIN, device unlock, or account password first.
3. Choose an avatar
Pick the pink or blue stick figure or another illustration, or choose Choose for me. Choose from device opens your image library. Choose from Little Binder appears when your gallery has images. Take a picture opens the camera and asks for camera permission. The same choices appear when changing an existing portrait, with no gender requested or inferred.
4. Crop it and confirm
Device images use your device’s crop editor: a circle guide on Android and a square on iPhone. Web images and Little Binder gallery images are centered automatically. Only a small square copy is uploaded. Choosing a gallery image leaves the original creation unchanged.
5. Keep using the app
After you confirm, the editor closes and the upload finishes in the background. Family swaps in your new picture right away with a small loading circle, and a note says everything already saved is safe, so you can keep using the app. If the connection drops, the saved portrait comes back and the note offers Try again or Cancel. Cancelling, or backing out of the picker or crop screen, leaves the saved portrait as it was. Your other signed-in devices pick up the new portrait within about 15 seconds while the app is open.
What happens to the picture
Little Binder keeps a small cropped picture and a smaller thumbnail, removes location and other metadata, and does not keep your original. It does not use facial recognition or AI on portraits.
Remove portrait erases both copies. Changing the portrait erases the previous copies, unless another child in your household still uses the identical picture. Removing a child profile removes its portrait too.
A family data download includes both current portrait images. Backups kept for recovery expire within 35 days, and a file you download stays under your control.
Optional, always. Skipping a portrait changes nothing else in the app.
Crop with a little room around the face, because the picture shows small.
Not happy with it? Change portrait replaces it, and Remove portrait erases it.
